THE SPORTSMAN CLUB-
The Sportsman's Club is Mike Brewer from Columbus, Ohio. Falling Scenery Converts is a collection of songs featuring some pissing around with various software at various points of time and place. Making music in whatever window life allows. It's not perfect but it's real, the best take at that moment or the only take in that moment. Mainly all first take stuff with some quick reaction overdubs. Demo's really. Straight from me to ones and zeros and now to whomever listens.

The Sportsman’s Club’s Falling Scenery Converts is the rare kind of pop record with the perfect balance of romance, humor, sincerity, swagger and humility. The songs are honest and unfiltered and work without needing to be dressed up in artificial style. There's no premeditated shtick just excellent classic song-writing with effortless hooks and grace.

w/ KOLA KOCA DEATH SQUAD-
Mike Brewer (Lori, Sportsman’s Club) and Colin Frazier (Starring Problem) got together for a little fun and to blow off some musical steam. No plans on releasing a cd or even playing live. After a listen back to the first session they thought it might be worth putting a little more effort into what became the KKDS. From three sessions, about 1 1/2 hours, 10 of of the songs emerged. The KKDS did a few shows tightened the sound and jumped into workbook studio with Jon Chinn and recorded the meat of their first full-length in two days. The sound is raw, loose , fun, fevered rock and roll.

We originated in Salem near Youngstown, OH. Youngstown is a dying city and a certain dull shade of depression is in the air there. It permeates the music creating an atmosphere where grunge, metal, and classic rock like Pink Floyd and Springsteen find an ever-welcoming home. The heart of rock is the blues. Youngstown has the blues. Youngstown taught us to rock. We owe everything to the lessons that area taught us.

But then we went to school at Ohio University. OU was all about partying (and the occasional class and all night study session). We had the opportunity to play such infamous shows like Halloween, PalmerFest, ThreeFest/FourFest, etc. We honed our partying skills and abilities to entertain a crowd. OU really taught us the fun side of things, so much so that it became a part of us and our music as well.

The mixture of these two incredibly different characteristics is the simplified explanation of what Downplay is, why we sound the way we now do, and why we have so much damn fun doing it.

Some music HAS to be made. It is not a choice. It is not a desire. It is a necessity, and it is a destiny. For these people, the very essence of their being sparks and tingles with music. It will not be contained. It will find a way out, sooner or later, one way or another.

For the members of STARFISH PRIME, this is a way of life. Day in and day out, they cannot escape the music, the unspeaking voice in their heads, that unconscious sound that longs to be heard. With pounding drums, thumping bass, and screaming guitars, they have set out to set her free...

Flex Crew's sound effects kill the pain of everyday angst like a morphine drip, with a consciousness-altering power. The sextet's power-packed reggae melds the tropical calypso roots of traditional reggae -- marked by that characteristic chord on the upbeat -- with the more militant brand, sometimes referred to as "rockers," that borrows from hip-hop, jazz, funk and rap. The result is a hard hittin' cosmopolitan strain of groove-dominated reggae. Flex Crew's mastermind, drummer/percussionist Troy "Daddy Troy" Jones, has performed with internationally known acts Identity, Steele Pulse, Michael Rose and Earl Zero. He was also the touring drummer Don Carlos of Black Uhuru fame.
